Art

Teacher: Miss Stephany

Hi everyone, I am Miss Stephany; I am an artist and fine arts teacher. I work with various media such as: pencils, watercolours, oil & soft pastels, acrylic paints, mixed media and more. I am passionate about drawing, painting, collage, bookmaking, design, sculpture, crafts, and many other forms of creative art making. This term at Préville Fine Arts Centre, in our online art classes, we have had so much fun exploring different visual art techniques and I am so excited to meet you and/or see you again in the Summer Camp!

Dance

Teacher: Jamie Malysh

Jamie will be offering classes in Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet and Musical Theatre.  With emphasis on technique, her goal is to always work with students in an encouraging way to help them broaden their artistic path.  Whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer she has something to offer everyone. Come have a fun-filled summer of dancing!

Language Lab (French or English)​

Teacher: Frédérique LeBel

I will be teaching conversational French and English using creative projects (arts and crafts, story writing) and content the students are familiar with, such as music, TV shows and literature.

Piano

In small groups, campers dive into improv and theory at the piano, learning to create the sounds and melodies of their imaginations!

Robot in a Can

Teacher: TBC

Students build their own robots and bring them to life using the programs they write. Each week, our facilitators will lead fun and exciting activities that teach the basics of design thinking, computer science, and electronics.

Intro to Robotics: For those who have NEVER taken a Robot in a Can course.
Robot Activities: For those who have ALREADY taken a Robot in a Can course, at Préville, or elsewhere.

Slam Poetry

Teacher:  Joan Meyer

Welcome to Préville’s Slam Poetry class. I’ll be your MC and teacher, Joan. Together we’ll cover the foundations of the spoken word genre, watch recordings of famous slam poets’ performances and write poems. Whether you’ve never written poetry before or you’re well versed, you’ll learn new performance and poetic techniques to express yourself and enhance your art. At the end of the week, you will have the option of submitting your work for publication and we’ll have our very own virtual poetry slam!

Theatre

Teacher: Camille Horrocks-Denis

Improvisation, vocal techniques, movement exercises and games to provide students with a strong foundation for building character and storytelling with a spirit of play and curiosity.

Voice

This small-group activity focuses on the fundamentals of singing: breath support, placement, and resonance. Students will have the opportunity to work one-on-one and in group learning situations while singing songs of their choice.

Specialized ProgramS

Intensive Dance Workshop #1 - Aspiring Choreographers

Teacher: Jamie Malysh

This three week choreographic intensive allows young dancers the opportunity to explore a new aspect of dance where they will discover the creative process and improve their choreographic skills.

Students will focus on the elements of dance including, body, space, effort and shape. Participants will learn about choreographers, choreographic process and choreographic style.

Throughout the program students will gain performance experience, develop their choreographic skills, be a part of a professional dance photo shoot and create an innovative full length dance production.

They will learn all this while having fun creating their very own dance piece to showcase at the end of the program. This is an opportunity not to be missed!

Intensive Dance Workshop #2 - Broadway Stars

Teachers: Jamie Malysh & Colin Enright

This three week program is aimed at young artists (8 to 16 years old) who have a passion for the arts!

They will work with Colin Enright, Voice Coach, and Jamie Malysh, Choreographer, over the three weeks where they will learn the music, choreography and acting from a current Broadway musical. At the end of the program they will have the opportunity to showcase their production.

Students will not only learn music and dance-steps; they will learn the skills to be authentic and expressive on any stage they play!

Songwriting & Studio Software Workshop

Teachers: Boris Petrowski & Andrew Wyatt

Through songwriting, students will learn the basics of DAW’s, (Digital Audio Workstations), as well as recording techniques using home studio and professional studio software and equipment.

Note: This six week program is offered for free, but students must first fill out the bursary application. Only 10 students will be accepted.
